Testing Smoke Alarm

I'’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is, that every year more and more people install smoke alarms in their homes. The bad news is, that less than fifty percent of these smoke alarms are working because the battery has gone dead. Now, it’s easy to test if you have a button here. Get the ladder out, climb up there and as you can tell, this one is still working. If you don’t want to get your ladder out, and you don't have a test button, just put a match to a little piece of rope, get it burning, and then, as soon as it gets burning, you can blow out the flame, and just hold it up here. And this one is still working! Now kids, remind your folks to do this, but don’t try it yourself.

It’s really a great idea if you go ahead and change the batteries twice a year. Put a fresh battery in there twice and you’ll never have to worry about that! To remember to do this, first of all, you always think about fire works on New Years and the forth of July. So, that would be a good way to remember about it. Or, whenever we get ready to change over our clocks, for daylight savings. If you’ll do that, that happens twice a year! If you’ll take care of your smoke alarm, you may be saving your own life!
