Michael Holigan: If you pick up any home magazine today, you're going to see a lot of ads for wood windows. People are buying them all across the country. We've got Dominic Truniger here with us today from Crestline. Good to have you here, Dominic. Dominic Truniger: Good to be here, Michael. M.H.: Why all the sales in wood windows? Why are people buying them for their homes? D.T.: Well, there's a number of reasons. One of the most important is the fact that you get the warmth and beauty of wood. Wood really is a fabulous natural insulator. This is what we call a double-hung window. Double hung windows go up and down and these are the type that we call tilt double-hung. The sash -- this is the movable part of the window -- is something that you can take out, basically tilting to the inside of your home, and easily washing it from the inside without having to go out on a ladder to try to wash your windows. It's much easier. M.H.: That's really going to be helpful upstairs, isn't it? D.T.: Definitely on a second story. The type of glass you use is extremely important. The type we have here in this window is what we call our sun-plus-four glass. It is a special coating that is applied to the glass along with an argon gas that is injected in between the air space. M.H.: So it's not just air? D.T.: It's not just air. What it is, is a superb insulator, better than air, and again prevents the hot summer rays of the sun and heat from coming to the inside, keeping your home cool and keeping those energy bills down to a minimum. M.H.: We always want that. You can tell it is shaded though. You can see that it's different. D.T.: And yet it is a very natural shade, so you don't really see any discoloration when you're looking outside. M.H.: I'm Michael Holigan, About The House.
