Electronic Measuring

Ever-advancing technology has transformed our lives in so many area... why not do-it-yourself home improvement projects, too? Super Handyman Al Carrell is About The House with a demonstration of some hi-tech gadgetry that may make those projects a lot easier from now on.

If it's time to redecorate, you've got a lot of choices on what to do with walls. You could put fabric on there, you could put wallpaper, or you can repaint. Now in order to do that and figure out how much materials you're going to need, you're going to have measure and you're going to have to do the math. Well, I've found a better way. It's a little device that does it for you and let me show you how easy it works. First of all, in order to find the height of the wall, you just aim this toward the ceiling and you've got the height right there. Next, we need to get the width, and so we just aim it at the wall. And once we've got those two figures in there, we can turn this to the backside, and let's say we're going to paint. We'll push in the paint mode and it shows for this area we need a half-gallon of paint. If we were going to panel, you could push in the 4x8 mode, it'll tell you how many sheets to order of paneling. It can tell you how many rolls of wallpaper. If you want to do your floors, it can also tell you how much carpet to order and also how many tiles to order, it you're going to put that on there. It really is handy. It's called the Pro-Measure Plus and even though it's new, it's probably available at your favorite hardware store.
