Uses for Petroleum Jelly

Al Carrell: The people that make petroleum jelly tell you that there are lots of uses. They say you can remove eye makeup, soften dry skin, soothe chapped skin and lips, soothe minor burns, help prevent diaper rash. None of those things apply to me. Not even the diaper rash. But there are several really handy uses for this stuff. First of all, when you're gonna be working with something that's grimy and grungy you can put a pair of invisible gloves on by just rubbing the petroleum jelly into you hand. That way, whatever's gonna be dirty is not gonna get into the pores of your skin and this will wash right off. Exterior light bulbs can get so corroded that they're almost impossible to remove. Next time you change the light bulb though, put a thin coating of petroleum jelly around the threads and then put it back in place and next time there's no problem. And petroleum jelly can also act as a plumber's friend. For example, if you've got a faucet that screeches every time you turn the handle take it apart. You're gonna probably find some threads like this, put this petroleum jelly on the threads and when you put it back in there it's probably gonna stop the screeching. If you ever have to take the trap off you get it all off and get...taking care of whatever problem you've got, you put it back together and these slip nuts around here allow water to just seep out. Well, if before you put it back on there you make sure that you put the little washer in there, but also put petroleum jelly on the threads and that way it's probably gonna keep the seepage from giving you a problem.
