Finding a Real Estate Agent

Michael Holigan: Are you considering buying a home? Do yourself a favor and link up with a great real estate agent. There are a number of reasons to have a licensed, reputable agent represent you. Here's how to find a good one and what to expect once your real estate agent is out pounding the pavement for you. First, seek a full-time agent who works for a company with a great reputation. Get referrals from friends who are happy with the real estate agent they've used, or call a reputable real estate company and get the manager's recommendation. You can also visit open houses and interview agents to see if they can meet your needs. Make sure your real estate agent is familiar with the pluses and minuses of the area you like. You can visit homes with several real estate agents. You're not bound to one agent.

But do you really need a real estate agent? Well, one of the best reasons to use an agent is saving time - and lots of it. Real estate agents have instant access to all new listings, and they can guide you through all the necessary steps of home buying, even tricky issues which could cost you money. It pays real estate agents to help you make the right choice. Much of their business comes from word of mouth. Take your time, locate an agent you like, and find yourself a great home.
