Most homes today have sheetrock attached to studs that are behind the walls. Now you get ready to hang something heavy like a moosehead or bookshelves you want to be able to tie it into those studs. Well, how do you find them? Well, there's several ways. First of all, a lot of people just go along and tap with a hammer and see how hollow it is right there? And they move on over and see it's not so hollow over there. So that's a pretty good way. It's not as accurate as some of the other ways, however. For example, there are magnetic stud finders. And what these do, you go around the wall here, and when you finally get to a point where there is a nail, it points to the nail. The nails were used to put the sheetrock into the studs. There also are electronic stud finders that pick out the density within the wall. And you just go along until the little lights show you exactly where the stud is. But my favorite way is a little bit weird and off the wall, so to speak. You just plug in your electric razor, turn it on, and listen to it. And as it moves across the wall, it's going to sound different when it's in a hollow area than when it comes to a stud. I can tell the difference, can't you? If you don't find the studs, at least you can go ahead and get a clean shave. |
