Fixing Your Ladder

Whether it is a metal step ladder or a wooden step ladder, when it gets old it gets a little loose in the joints, and it starts getting a little wobbly. And that means it's very unsafe. I have just run across a new invention that I think is great.

These two cross bars will be attached to the back of the ladder. And when that is done it becomes very ridged. Now, I've already measured and drilled the two holes up here. We'll go ahead and mount these two braces up here, so we can figure where the holes go down below.

Now, we left the bolt in the middle loose and the ones up there so that we can move it around and get our position down here. Now I put a piece of tape down here because this will keep your drill bit from skidding away. Once we have that mark, we can go ahead and drill the holes down here. Remember: always when drilling, wear your safety goggles.

We go right on through here. The next thing is to insert the bolts down here and get everything tightened up. Now with this middle nut all tightened up, you're ready to do it. Incidentally if you have a brand new ladder, this will make it last longer. Hey, that's perfectly safe. I can't get any movement at all on that one.
