Choosing a Lender

Choosing mortgage lender is a little like choosing a spouse. It’s a big decision which could last a lifetime. Your lender will find the best way for you to buy a home based on your unique financial situation. So, it's not a partnership you should enter into lightly. Devoting a little time to researching the going interest rates and loan fees could save you a bundle in the long run. Familiarize yourself with current interest rates by thumbing through the newspaper’s financial pages or checking out one of many financial websites on the Internet. Call around to various lenders and ask about their origination fees, application fees, or other charges. Your next step is talking to friends. Most people pleased with their lender are more than happy to pass on the person's name. And don't forget your realtor. Real estate agents are especially good resources if you have special loan needs. Be sure you feel comfortable with the person who will be working on your mortgage. You and he will be going over your personal financial information in great detail.

Finding the right lender can save you thousands of dollars, if you’re armed with a little information before you make your choice.
