Organization Projects: Making a Tool Caddy

#1 - Installing Fluorescent Lighting

Materials

  1. One 2x4 stud
  2. Six coffee cans
  3. Heavy duty handle
  4. Drill
  5. Screws

Step-by-Step

NOTE: The 2x4 should be cut to the length of 3 coffee cans.

  1. Place the handle in the middle of the 2x4 and screw it firmly into place.
  2. Drill a hole in the upper edge of each coffee can.
  3. Mark the 2x4 where you want the tops of the cans to be. They need to be in the exact same place on both sides because when you set it down, you want it to be balanced.
  4. Draw a straight line on both sides of the 2x4. This will ensure that all the coffee cans will be positioned an equal distance from the top of the 2x4. Drill the hole in the stud. This will make attaching the coffee cans really easy.
  5. Align the holes on the coffee cans to the holes on the board. Secure them together with the screws.
  6. TIP: You could just use it the way it is now. However, you may have a problem if you ever wanted to change out a can. You would either have to dig everything out of that can or dump out all six at one time. If you don't want to do that, try this: Take some water or soda bottles and just cut the top of them. Place the bottom half of the bottle into your coffee can. You can then just lift out the bottle which holds the contents of the can.
