I’ve got a magic formula that’s really going to kill the mildew: - Start with 3 quarts of warm water
- Add 1 quart of liquid laundry bleach.
- Add 1 quarter cup of any kind of powdered detergent
- Add ¾ cup of TSP (tri sodium phosphate). You can find it in any paint department or any paint store.
- Mix all ingredients together.
-
Apply mixture with a scrub brush. Remember to wear eye protection and rubber gloves when applying. Now we are going to replace the rotting wood: -
Line up the drip-edge. -
Loosen the gutter. -
Pull the rotten fascia board out. Don't throw this out just yet - we'll use it for a pattern for cutting our other wood. -
Mark your cut line on the new board. -
Cut at a 45° angle, so the board will line up neatly with what's already up on the house. -
Put the new board in and see if it fits. -
Nail it in place. - In order to protect the new board, we will paint it. But in order to keep the mildew away, we will either use a primer with mildewcide or add mildewcide to the paint.
