NOTE: This project requires only straight cuts - perfect for people that are afraid of cutting angles.
A 'rosette' is a square with a circular pattern in the center. You are going to put one in all four corners, and then run the trim right into it.
TIP: You can hot glue any type of decoration to the rosette,
like sea shells, depending on the decor of the room. Pre-paint the rosettes and trim before
attaching them to the wall.
Step-by-Step
- Start in the top corner. Lay the rosette in place and nail it on. You can
check it with a level.
- On the bottom sill, you can do a couple of things. One; cut it off trim at
the top of the sill and add the rosette, or two; extended the sill to give enough
room to run the trim down on.
- Now, measure between the rosettes. Make sure to measure each section because
windows are not usually perfectly square.
- Cut the pieces of trim.
- There are a couple of different ways to apply the trim. You can slide the
fluted trim right against the edge of the window, or you can set center it right
in the rosettes. Our rosettes are aimed right at the corner. We're going to leave
this little strip just like a reveal, so it gives it one more level and makes it
stand out more.
- Slide all the pieces in on the other side before you nail it in. Put two nails
in each one just to hold them in place.
- Check everything to make sure it looks good.
- If you like the way it's laid out, add a few more nails, fill in the holes with
putty/spackle, touch up the paint and we've got a window trimmed out.
