Exterior doors of the Project House Architect Don Evans designed the Project House to have a strong indoor/outdoor flow, and that translates to doors — a lot of exterior doors with large spans of glass with no panes or grids.

All the doors in the Project House are from Simonton Windows and Doors®. In all, we have 13 exterior doors in the Project House of several styles: Center-hinge garden doors, sliding patio doors, French Doors and Single Panel, full view.

Installing exterior doors Exterior doors are exposed to the elements year-round, so you want to be sure to install exterior doors that will not require much maintenance as the years go by.

Exterior doors are also favorite points of entry for burglars, so you want to install exterior doors that are sturdy, with glass that is hard to shatter.

Simonton also created 11 special window configurations to accent the doors. Creating attractive window-door configurations is something to consider when designing your new house.

The multi-chambered exterior door frames are made from premium extruded vinyl that will never peel, chalk or pit.. The sash and frame are heated to over 500 degrees, then fused together to create a solid one-piece design that's sturdy and prevents air infiltration. Dual weather stripping around the perimeter of the sash also protects against air and water infiltration.

The glass is Low-E softcoat tempered glass for maximum energy efficiency. These doors are EnergyStar® rated, and are about 40% more energy-efficient than standard single-pane exterior doors.

Clawed hooking system The center-hinge Garden doors have a full-length anodized aluminum gear hinge, which means that the door can stand up to excessively harsh treatment without coming unhinged, or loosely hinged. There is a clawed hooking system that pulls the door securely into the frame when the door is locked. This keeps the door from warping, tightly seals out the elements and most importantly, adds security because in effect, deadbolts secure the door once it's locked. There's also a standard deadbolt in the middle of the door.
